Book this tourWe will be passing the week in two unique areas of Tuscany.
Sovana is a sparsely populated area of the southern most region of Tuscany, Grosetto. It was a bustling area in the Etruscan times, and we’ll see remnants of that era as we ride along. Mostly an agricultural area now, we’ll enjoy the quiet roads and proximity to Lazio to explore.
Crete Senesi is an area south of Siena known for its ancient clay soil and the seemingly uninterrupted views. With long stretches of rolling hills and quaint villages sprinkled every so often, it is a wonderful place to spend a day on the bike.
The tour will finish with two days in Florence with a ride in honor of Gino Bartali, and guided walking tour of the city for those interested.
This is a 3-pig tour and an ideal way to enjoy your post-summer fitness.
We will have two longer, 80 – 100k, transfer days. Otherwise plan on most days ranging from 60 – 70k.
Non-Cycling partners are welcome to join this tour, although we will not have a specific itinerary to offer off the bike, these are lovely locations that will offer hiking, shopping & relaxing.
The Crete is an area south of Siena formed from an ancient sea bed, the soil is an incredible clay that gives this area a distinctly different look from the more known views of Tuscany.
Sovana and the surrounding area is Etruscan in origin. There are many ruins sprinkled throughout this southern most region of Tuscany. The village itself is particularly small and peaceful.
Florence, although a bustling city and tourist destination, is a beautiful center of Italian history and worth the crowds to visit. We encourage you to stay on a day or more to soak in all the city has to offer.
