We’ve combined two of our dreamiest tours in southern Italy– Cilento and Basilicata– into one cycling adventure. Cilento is a region of Campania composed of rugged coastline overlooking the Tyrrhenian sea and the largest national park that spans from the coast to interior mountains. Basilicata spans the width of Italy, but we’ll be focusing on the more mountainous parts mostly in its many national parks. Thanks to the abundant national park system the terrain has been preserved from overdevelopment and provides a rich and varied mediterranean-to-mountain culture to explore.Book this tour
We will pass the week cycling through the national parks of Basilicata, dip down into Calabria, and finish our tour in the Cilento area of Campania.
Expect spectacular vistas, quiet roads, plenty of cycling, and abundance at the table!
Cyclists who love to travel and get off the beaten path. The terrain ranges from hilly to mountainous, and the views will transition from the forested & high plains to breathtaking coast line.
Be fit but not in a hurry, there are so many natural and historic sights to see here that we will let the days come to us rather than hurry along.
This tour is not well suited for non-riders because of the twisting nature of the roads on our transfer days. However, we consider the sights and experiences on this trip to be extraordinary, so write us if you are interested and we will discuss if this tour would suit you.
Castelmezzano is situated within the Parco Regionale Gallipoli of Basilicata. Also known as the Dolomiti Lucane, the little Dolomites of the south. We love good mountain terrain so naturally we were intrigued to weave this area in to a tour. We will spend two days cycling here before transferring to the Parco Nazionale del Pollino. Here our rides will take us through forests to high mountain plains known for wild horses. Our second transfer leaves Basilicata for some short kilometers in Calabria and into the Parco Nazionale del Cilento of Campania. Our routes here will have the lure of the sparkling sea, which we hope to indulge in on our post-ride afternoons.
This tour will begin with transportation from Naples on Saturday, June 11th from a central location (TBD) to our starting point of Castelmezzano.
We will end the tour with transportation to Naples on Saturday, June 18th. Hotel accommodation is included on the 18th. Flights should be scheduled home on the 19th or after.
There is an optional two day add-on at the end of this tour to explore Naples with a local guide. If you are interested please let us know.
